GARETH PYMM

I started road cycling in 1996, riding and racing time trials with my local club. I continued this until my mid 20's when I took up triathlon and competed in events up to half iron man distance. When I returned to pure cycling several years later I was coached by Matt Bottrill, a national champion and competition record holder. By training properly I made big gains and my TT times rapidly got faster and my results improved. This progressed into me starting to work for Matt as a coach in 2015.

Over the years I have competed and taken part in national championship time trials, mountain bike racing, adventure racing, road racing, audax, sportives, duathlon and triathlon. This has given me a deep understanding of the demands of the events and provided valuable experience that I pass on to my coached athletes. In 2017 I qualified for and raced in the UCI GF World ITT champs in Albi, France.

I am an Association of British Cycling Coaches Coach, IM University Certified Coach and have taken the UK Anti-Doping course for coaches. I have coached a range of abilities of cyclists and triathletes, from beginners to athletes competing in the 2018 Commonwealth Games and age group world Championship winners.

I feel that in the time I have spent cycling and competing I have developed a good understanding of the demands of the sport both physically and psychologically.

 Proven academic record:

  • 4 A levels

  • BSc (Hons) in environmental science which included work on cell structure      and metabolism.

  • Association of British Cycling Coaches Level 3 Coach

  • Iron Man University Certified Coach

  • UKAD Coach Clean

  • Training Peaks Level 1 Certified

I love racing and training and continue to learn from my experiences and apply my knowledge to the athletes I coach. I always strive to be better and look for new developments, methods and techniques that will help my athletes reach their potential.

I also have a young family and understand the difficulties in fitting racing and training and work and family life. It’s all about making best use of available time and having a flexible/adaptable plan, something which I feel I have specialised in over the years
