Catch up with George Fox

Time for a catch up with George Fox, who handles our professional bike fitting and is also a coach here at MBPC!

'2018 was a bit of an underwhelming year on the bike, it started well with good form but a crash at the end of March left me recovering for a few weeks before getting back into the swing of training again mid April.

As May hit the legs had sure enough come back but at this point my overall health started to decline. Day to day tasks became extremely fatiguing and a simple ride would take me 3 to 4 days to recover from properly.

Due to the down time on the bike I put all of my focus into the bike fitting and cycling coaching with MBPC. The standout performances for me include Emma Lewis (Fusion RT) finishing 2nd in the National 25 and 4th in the British Cycling National TT Champs!

Numerous bike fit clients were smashing their way to World and European AG championships in a whole host of different disciplines, the focus I was able to apply to this was a welcome distraction from not being able to train myself!

2019 to date...

The fitting and coaching success continues with the Qatar National Road Race Champion Fawaz Al Shamriy smashing his way to 2nd in the National TT Champs last week under my guidance. In addition to this I've already had fitted athletes use their new aerodynamic tool box to help them qualify for the 70.3 worlds later in the year! Not bad for the first week of February!

From November '18 onward I have been able to train again illness free, getting back to fitness has been a steady and sometimes tedious journey with not being able to push too hard. Your own advice is the most difficult to take!

However the January FTP test saw some of my best numbers, this was hugely pleasing for me as I have set my own training since starting back so to see where I am at already is really encouraging for the rest of the year now!

Immediate plans for racing personally include some local time trials and road races before heading to France on the MBPC training camp in mid April!

I'd just like to thank everybody who offered help and support in 2018 while I was suffering! To those of you I was seeing on a day to day basis in bike fits that kept asking 'so, how is your training and racing going?'... I can finally say really well thanks!'
