Team Bottrill Youth and Junior support 2021
Following on from a short, but successful 2020, Matt Bottrill Performance Coaching will continue to support young riders for the coming season within time trials. A core group will continue to represent their excellent clubs and teams within road/circuit racing and MBPC against the clock.
Matt was always well supported as a young rider, but wishes he knew then what he knows now! Along with Simon Beldonthey will mentor, coach and advise on all aspects of cycle racing, passing on knowledge from many years of cycling coaching experience.
Ella Jamieson
First up is Ella Jamieson, 16 years. Ella has been racing since under 12 with many wins on the road both locally and very successful on the National scene, including 3rd place in the North West Youth Tour and an excellent 3rd place in the National road championships. Other notable results have been podiums within the National cyclocross Series and 6th in the National cyclocross Championships.
Ella stepped up her time trial experience in 2020 with some local course records, 6th in the National 25 against older riders and has a previous 4th place in the National Youth Champs.
Ella was recently taken into the Great Britain Track apprentice pathway
Oliver Peace
Oliver is another rider who has raced from a young age and follows in a long line of family athletes including father Martin and Uncle Andy, a multi winner of the 3 peaks.
Oli races on the road for the very successful PH Mas team and is multi disciplined across road, time trials, track and is an excellent cyclo cross rider. Notable results include podiums at the National Trophy cyclocross and 4th place at the National road championships. Oli made a solid start to time trials with his first ever race in 2020 and a top 20 at the National championships. It is anticipated he will improve significantly this season with more experience of time trialling.
Alex Beldon
Alex has ridden a bike since showing fellow nursery kids how to ride with no stabilisers at the age of 4! He is also a member of the formidable PH MAS on the road, rides at a high level on the track and has had some successful early years within time trials.
On the road Alex has had local wins, top 10s in the National champs and series and won solo in Holland at the Tour of Assen where he also took 3rd place in the week long stage race. Alex loves track racing and this year is looking to step up this area in bunch races and the pursuit at the Nationals in July.
In 2020, Alex took his first open time trial win at the age of 14, breaking the course record and rode to a PB of 20.12. In National events he won his age group at the 10 and 25 champs, along with the National Youth championships.
Alex is currently a guest rider on the track for the Great Britain apprentice pathway.
Lucas Jowett
Lucas is a recent convert to cycling and racing and has made big strides in a short period of time, racing for the excellent Junior supporting Beeston Cycling Club.
In his first year of racing in 2020, he progressed through the year resulting in a win at Milton Keynes Bowl . Lucas really enjoyed time trials and again made good progression reducing his 10 mile PB to a short 21 mins and ended the season with excellent rides in the open and closed circuit championships with 13th place at both, against older riders.
Lucas moves up to Junior from youth this year and with his increasing power and experience of racing we really should see him step it up a level in 2021.
Matty Cole
Matty is another recent convert to cycling after many years within triathlon. His first 18 months have seen good progression on the road with many top 10s in the competitive North East and Yorkshire leagues.
In time trials Matty really started to find his niche in 2020 and he was able to reduce his 10 mile PB to a low 21 and 12th place at the National Youth finals. We have seen some excellent progression within the first few weeks of coaching with Matty and with the power he has, we should see some significant time improvements in the year to come.
