………

As winter training is now in full swing, you will most likely have next year’s goals in mind already, or at least an idea of what you’d like to aim for next season.

Personally, I am goal driven and find it very hard to train aimlessly. I need to know why I’m getting up early on the dark cold mornings either getting out on the trails or the turbo depending on the sessions set that day. As it’s very easy to think I can’t be bothered today and stay in bed a while longer. Winter can be hard to keep the motivation high.

This is why I always say it’s so important to set a goal, no matter how big or small. It needs to be something that you really want to improve on or an event next year that you’re determined to complete, get faster, stronger or fitter and healthier. Whatever you decide and on them dark cold mornings or nights when you are struggling to get the session done, that part of you thinks come on get on that bike and not on the sofa. The hard part is getting on or out. Once you’ve done it you feel great for it and it’s a session closer to achieving your goal.

…………..

Ideas of goals you may want to set could be,

1- Riding a Time Trial in a certain time you want to do or the fastest triathlon bike split in your 70.3/ Ironman.

2- Look at your bike set up - are you in the most optimised position for you. Would part upgrades to your set up find you those gains  you’re looking for.

4- Start working with a coach to improve your training and performance by optimising your sessions to your goals.

Anything that ignites that motivation and keeps the training consistent as this is key to improvement and progression.
